How Crestwood grew along the rail line
The City of Crestwood traces its start to Beard’s Station, a stop in the early railroad days of the 1850s. Joseph Beard bought land there in 1839 and later gave ground for the rail line between Louisville and Frankfort. The Louisville and Nashville line came through in 1869, and the Interurban arrived from Pewee Valley in 1901.
The town took the name Crestwood in 1909 and incorporated as a city in 1970. The city lists Harrod’s Creek Baptist Church, built in 1822, as the oldest church in Oldham County, and it also lists Yew Dell Botanical Gardens among its landmarks.
